Brian Downs - Cape Cod, Mass  Feb. 8th
MaineHunters.com (MaineCoyote.com)
1st Place Winner $50 Certificate to Cabelas.com
I harvested this nice male over some scattered bait. He kept coming into the clearing picking up a piece of bait and running off. This seemed to give him some confidence in an area I feel is getting spooked. I felt he would offer a great shot as he fed across the clearing and he did ....

This contest is intended to encourage the harvest of coyotes and to foster more sportsman to hunt and harvest this predator that is "over populated" and destroying, Maine and other States game populations at an increasingly high rate. Snaring coyotes in Maine has been eliminated by Anti hunting groups and now we hunters & trappers have to thin them out one at a time or all game species are in danger. Coyotes are in such large numbers in all areas of the State of Maine, that healthy deer are being run down and killed, wise old turkeys sit in trees all day for fear of landing to be attacked by coyotes, in the deep snow Turkeys land in the morning and are attacked and helpless, domestic cats and dogs are being eaten and killed as food for coyotes, rabbits, grouse and all small game are targets of these predators.  The list of their destruction can go on and on! The facts are in.. coyotes are predators, they are over populating since snaring was outlawed in Maine, the problem is here and sportsman have an opportunity to manage this problem, their is NO-Closed Season on coyotes here in Maine and in most USA States!  Hunting opportunities are year around!
So check your local State laws and give it a try, coyote hunting is by far one of the most challenging hunting sports in the world!

Alan Ladd - Albion Maine
Tradional Harvest - 2007 Archery Season
I took this coyote, going on the  trot,  20 yards away with a 45 pound recurve and cedar arrow in Freedom, Maine .  I didn't have time to stand up from my tree stand and shot while sitting down...lead him by a foot and took him though both lungs.  He turned 160 degrees and took off running only to pile up 60 yards away.  The photo is exactly how he lay when I found him.  Looking close, you can see the white arrow fletching from the snapped off arrow.

5:30am 2/2/08 in Fairfield. This is #2 for 08. Used my 22-250 to make
about a 150 yard shot.
Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine.
This female coyote was shot 1/25/08 about 9pm in Fairfield. It was 165yd shot with my Tikka 22-250. She was with another bigger coyote but drove it away. I figured I better take the shot I had so both of them did not disappear. This is my first harvested for 08. I have had some get down wind and take off so always post someone watching downwind if you can.

Ryan, Rod Parlin and Tom Mayo - Fairfield. 2008
These coyotes one female and one male were shot in Fairfield in December. We used Rod and Ryans dogs to chase them down.
Tom Mayo - Fairfield.
I shot this one about 5:20 am before leaving for
work. I used my 22-250 with 50gr Sierra blitz king. I shot it in the
chest trying to minimize pelt damage but the bullet exploded on the
breast bone and exited down through the bottom with a good sized hole.
Clint Southard - Detroit, Maine
I shot 6 this week in all (4 Females 2 Males)
So I thought I would send along a couple of photos. 5 where called in and
one shot off my bait pile during the eclipse last night, 175yrds

2/24/2008
I could see this 35 pound male coming down a snowmobile trail towards a 3 way intersection that I was heading towards. The hound running him was about 75 yards behind him, and Copper (in the photo) was running down the same trail, except he was running straight for him.  I shot him at about 40 yards with my Spartan 12 gauge/223 combo gun, just before the dogs got to him!  I don't think the yote stood a chance with Copper anyhow, as you can tell he doesn't care much for them!

35-40 LBS male  11-12-07.  Model 94 Winchester 30/30.
After jumping up a deer  while getting to my deer stand, this yote crossed by nose to the ground at about 50 yards 10 minutes later. He should make a good mount.

had rubbed all the hair down the top of its neck and shoulders so the
hide was useless.

He shot him at 40 yards with #1 buckshot in Southern NH.

 Tom Mayo - Fairfield.
I shot this coyote after a long spell of seeing coyotes and not
getting good shot opportunities or having coyotes get my scent and
take off a hundred miles an hour! It was at 170 yards going towards a
bait in Clinton. Its a good sized male at 41lbs. I think it was an
alfa because it was with another smaller coyote that was probably the
female. Everyone needs to keep shootin these suckers and post the pics.
 Frank Chase- Southern NH
I am dedicating this hunt & photo to my father, he passed away 3/26/2008.  Thanks dad for always finding time to take me out hunting when I was a kid.  This 35 pound male was making a 75 yard downwind pass from my PM-4 Johnny Stewart  electronic call, little did he know that I was setup 75 yards downwind!  Just about shot this one in my lap with #4 buckshot from a
Spartan 12 gauge/.223 combo gun.
Bring a kid hunting, it leaves a lifetime of memories!  Thanks Dad.
This is the way to get a coyote out of the woods without ruining it's pelt.

After Tagging his turkey he spotted a coyote in a field, he went down a nearby dirt road and the coyote came right in at 25 yards!
Michael Robitaille- Wales ME
I shot this pair of coyotes in Wales, ME, a breeding pair.  The male weighed 35 lbs. and the female weighed 40 lbs.  The male I took at 70 yards and the female was from 190 yards right between the ears behind the head as the critter was trotting away. Both were taken with a Savage .17 HMR and these will make for a couple of nice wall hangers.

This is a picture of the first coyote I ever shot while coyote hunting. Second one I ever shot. It was shot in Littleton, Maine in January 2007. It was shot at about 10:30 p.m.. I was using a Ruger M77 22-250 with a Maine-Vue optics scope and still am. Love that gun.
It's not a pretty yote or a good picture, but it has three legs and a stump(with one toe nail and one pad). Thought that was odd.
Ed Harris-  called at a fence row in Southern Wisconsin and pulled out  a
double not 10 minutes apart- useing a .17 cal Remington.  80 yds and 150 yds

Just a few miles from where the Beatty Buck was shot. I shot this coyote the last day of our black powder deer season Dec. 30/07. The picture came off of my stealth cam on a near by tree. Poor quality since the sun was in a bad position.

Tony Damico - Milwaukee, WI
Taken in Richfield, WI January 18, 2008.  Went out and tried coyote hunting for the first time at 12:30 am.  I hiked to the spot, and got there about 1:00 am.  Set up, did a series of dying rabbit calls using a mouth call for about 20 seconds.  Put my call in my pocket, grabbed my Remington model 700 rifle and waited about 10 seconds, and caught movement about 50 yards down a ditch, coming at me! Didn't have time to think - just found him in the scope and fired.  First time out, and first dead coyote.  Distance was about 25 yards.
John Bigley - Salmon, Idaho
This coyote was taken with a 300 win.mag. 180 grain bullet, I was hunting a sagebrush draw for muledeer in Salmon,Idaho and this coyote tried to skip out the other end of the draw and took a shot and down he went,He was running fast so I lead his about a foot and down he went. Not know just were I hit him,I walked up to look and the coyote was missing his face from the eyes to the nose.
