  John Leadbetter-Waldo Me.
Harvested in Appleton ME.
45lb male
Hound hunting with Mike, Ray, and Guy
Frank Chase - Milford, NH
This hunt started out as a hound hunt, but when the dogs straight lined out of hearing range, I decided it was time to use a few calls.
What do you get when you mix .223, 12 gauge and a Ki-Yi call......a 30 second hunt!  This one was hungry, shot him at about 45 yards.
Bob Nolette - NH (On Right W/ Frank Chase)
The other picture is a coyote that Ace (hound) chased for about 10 hours.  We had several opportunities to get  this one, but something always happened.  Finally right at the last minute of light the coyote tried crossing a skidder trail in the same spot as the last 3 times, he didn't quite make it.  The shooters name is Bob Nolette, coyote was shot with a 12 gauge at about 30 yards, maybe 20 seconds ahead of the hound.

Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine.
This coyote was shot at 318 yards with my 25-06 using a Hornady 75
grain V-Max at about 3500 feet per second. The bullet hit the
shoulder and exploded without any penetration to the vitals. The
coyote was found with the use of a friends dogs a couple hours later
still alive. I guess these bullets are to fragile for shoulder shots,
more suited for ribs. This was the first coyote I shot with this hand
load and I thought it would devastate the thing. Coyote was adult female
between 30-35 lbs.Coyote shot in Clinton 1/27/07.
Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine
This coyote was shot at 150 yards with my 22-250 using hand load 50 grain
Sierra blitz kings. The coyote was a young male. The shot really blew his
mind. Coyote was shot in Fairfield, Me.
2/9/07 at about 5AM before going to work.
Winner will be chosen by our staff after the close of the 2007
Night Hunting Season in Maine.
Send in your photo, name and address. The Contest Winner will be notified by mail!

Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine

This coyote was shot at 276 yards with my 25-06 using the 75 grain
Hornady V-max hand load. This time the bullet performed great,
entered just behind the left front shoulder and exploded inside. It
knocked him about three feet over the bait and he did not even
quiver. The coyote was a young male 35 lbs or so. The coyote was shot
in Benton on 2/3/07.

Randy Elden - ???
January of 2006 at 215 yds with a 30-06. The female was out of range of my fancy lighting system (mounted 'D'-cell mag light) so I had the wife hold a spot light for me.
Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine.
This coyote was shot 2/24/07 about 6:30 am in Clinton. It is a small female
about 25lbs or so. The 25-06 Encore is doing a fine job. The coyote was
shot at about 160 yards on a bait. I will not be skinning this one because
it has the start of mange on its rump. My friend shot another female off
the same bait that night and it was rotten with mange.
Isaac Grindle - Appleton, Maine
on Feb,3 had been hound hunting with Ray Gushee and Mike
Dodd and we had shot a 45pound male coyote in front of their dogs.
After a long day of coyote hunting with hounds, I come home to see a 20
pound femal running across my front lawn.
I shot it with my trusty 30-30winchester.
Tom Mayo - Fairfield, Maine
This coyote was shot at 1:15 am on 2/28/07 in Benton, Me. It is a large
adult female. It is probably an older one because the teeth look pretty
worn down. Coyote was shot at 304 yards with my 25-06.

This coyote was shot 2/8/07 at 8:30 pm in Bucksport. She is a young female who spent too much time around the bait pile. I used a 30-06, 150 grain round and light her up with a scope mounted Nightblaster.
John Mayo Jr. with a coyote he
shot up to bulldog camp in west forks. John is from Fairfield Me.

This is my first double! A good sized male and a smaller female. I shot the
male at about 130 yards then whistled to get the female to stop at 210
yards. I used my Encore 25-06.They were shot at 4:30 am 3/10/07 in Clinton,

This one is young female shot in Fairfield on 3/13/07 at about 2am.
Kade Paradise - Jackman,Maine.
These were shot in feb around the full moon. One was called in with foxpro rabit squelin and the other with mouse coaxer. They were both male 44lbs and the other 32lbs. Shot with #4 buckshot  12 guage.
Frank Chase - Milford, NH
3/24/07...6:30 pm  Three coyotes charged in at the fawn in distress, at least I thought there was three.  After shooting this 50 lb male at 15 yards, I jumped up to shoot the "coyote" that was approaching from my back, only to see the biggest fisher I have ever seen in the woods approximately 7 yards away.  By this time the other coyote had taken off.   Coyote taken in Southern NH with a .223/12 gauge combination gun and called in with a fawn in distress, coupled with Syco Tweety.
Frank Chase - Milford, NH
1.5 miles in made for a long carry out.  Howled the female in and shot her at 75 yards with the .223/12 gauge combo Spartan 94, and then realized the male was zig zagging through the woods about 85 yards out.  Cracked the gun open, loaded another shell, gave a whistle to stop him.....as you can see he didn't quite make it.
Bob from Morrill and Greg from Friendship shot a male and a female with the hounds off John Leadbetter's bait in Waldo and the gang to many names to list lots of fun had.
The Gang - Nice looking Hounds!
 Chelsea Edwards - Warren, MA
1st coyote of the year!  Shot at 8:30 am on February 17, 2007.  Shot at 140 yds. with Remington 22-250.
In the picture is Matt (left) and Jim with a rookie coyote hound named Rebel.  The coyote on the left crossed a trail about 20 yards from me and a friend while we were talking, the thing is that we were just standing right where he crossed!  I let Rebel go on his track and he ran the coyote right into Matt.
What makes this picture meaningful, is that Matt contacted us through the internet this past summer.  He was interested in tagging along while we hound hunted for coons at night.  Since then, we have been picking him up every chance we get to bring him coyote and coon hunting.
The youths will keep hunting alive in the future.
Story by Frank Chase!  Frank.. I could not agree more!
This picture was taken on April 14,2007 with a group
of avid coyote hunters from the Midcoast area here in
Maine. John Leadbetter was the lucky shooter on both
coyotes. One of the coyotes weighed 35 pounds, and the
other 49 pounds. This sure was a great day of hunting.

Check these out. Looks like a mountain lion in West Forks.
I guess they said it had a long tail.
Webmaster note:
This may or may not be a Mountain Lion, the Black pointed tufts on the neck of this cat, would point me toward a Lynx or Bobcat.
Why we hunt Coyotes!
Winters are tuff enough for moose, without this!
